ABIX Summary
The results of an Australian well-being survey released in late 2006 reveal that signing a mortgage creates significant bonds between couples. Women and men were found to be happiest when they shared responsibilities. The research also found that renters were less happy than those who had a mortgage, regardless of their annual income. Significant events, such as 11 September 2001, also resulted in increased well-being because people become compelled to consider the importance of family.
