DBA Butler's Daniel Butler says do-it-yourself (DIY) fund investors are increasingly inclined to borrow in order to invest in property. Australia's new superannuation borrowing rules have stimulated interest in the strategy, but some super groups think more clarity is needed on borrowing entitlements. Butler and Craig Day, of Colonial First State, agree that guidance from the Australian Taxation Office on related-party arrangements would be helpful. Butler says the guidance would help to minimise prospective problems.
