A raft of economic data will be released in Australia in early June 2007. It is expected to show that the economy's strong growth in late 2006 has continued into 2007. There has been solid consumer spending and strong business investment, keeping the economy in a stable state. The national accounts figures will show that the economy grew by 1% in the March quarter of 2007, reflecting annual growth of 2.9%. Inflation is under control, so there is little fear of a rise in interest rates. Strong household spending, on the back of good employment growth, has boosted the economy. Business investment in Australia is very healthy. The prolonged drought has hurt the agricultural sector, which has affected the Australian economy as a whole.
