Sherry hints at way forward

Mon Mar 17 2008

The Australian Financial Review --- Page: 75 : 14 March 2008
Original article by Barrie Dunstan

LexisNexis Summary
Superannuation is a complex issue in Australia. The Australian Minister for Super, Senator Nick Sherry, has given his first speech to the industry. On 12 March 2008, he said that a key focus will be the self-managed super fund (SMSF) sector, which is growing fast. He wants to see more training for the trustees of SMSFs, who are sometimes unaware of compliance issues. The Financial Planning Association believes that advisers to SMSFs should be qualified and licensed to give advice. Senator Sherry said that there is insufficient data kept on SMSFs. The Australian Taxation Office is the regulator of SMSFs.
