ABIX Summary
The Australian Government needs to release policies that encourage more people to invest in rental property. Simon Tennant, of the Housing Industry Association, said that although lending for investment properties increased slightly to $A5.44 billion in November 2006 on a seasonally adjusted basis, the ongoing trend is that loans for investments are declining. As a result, he says there will be fewer rental properties in 2007 and higher rents, meaning that the governments will have to pay more in rental subsidies.
