Instalment warrants deliver tax deduction advantage

Thu Apr 19 2007

The Australian Financial Review --- Page: 32 : 18 April 2007
Original article by Stephen Calder

ABIX Summary
Australian investors should take advantage of the end of the 2006-07 financial year to pre-pay interest on an investment loan. Investors should pay the interest for 2007-08 before 30 June 2007, in order to gain the tax deduction that is available for pre-payments. This will enable investors to claim 13 months' worth of interest in 2006-07. Instalment warrants are a useful option for pre-paying interest, but the investor should ensure that the instalment warrant will mature after June 2008, in order to be entitled to 13 months' worth of deductions.
