LexisNexis Summary
It is important members ensure their superannuation fund has their tax file number. If not, they will be paying the full marginal rate on contributions instead of just 15 per cent. Also, after-tax contributions will not be able to be accepted. If they decide to leave the fund without supplying the required information, tax penalties will be charged. These are not refundable. The Australian Taxation Office says it needs the tax file numbers to ensure concessional contributions are within the limits of $A50,000 a year for those under 50 and $A100,000 for those over.
