ABIX Summary
The corporate profits reporting season has begun in February 2007 in Australia and the news so far is promising. The All Ordinaries index also appears set to soon break through the 6,000-point barrier, closing on 9 February at 5,927 points after a rise of 5% for the year to date. The global economy is healthy, although markets other than Australia's are not performing quite as well. While there has been a slight correction in commodity prices, the rapid development of the Chinese, and to a lesser extent the Indian, economy means mining stocks will once more be good investments in Australia. Job creation and private equity activity will also boost stockholder returns.
