ABIX Summary
A December 2006 survey shows an increase in home-buyer interest in Australia. The survey showed a 20% increase in the likelihood of people buying houses in the next 12 months. Home-buyer interest remains below the long-term average of 21% and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) believes that interest rate increases in late 2006 may dampen the survey results. The HIA also says that home-buyer interest is slowly increasing, but the sale of new homes remains at a six-year low.
