ABIX Summary
A new survey estimates the amount an Australian couple would need for a comfortable retirement. The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) estimates that an Australian couple aged 65 would need a lump sum of $A627,581 to lead a comfortable life. They could enjoy a range of leisure activities and have a high standard of living. If a couple had $A339,800 they could enjoy a higher standard of living than they could on the aged pension. However, they could indulge in only basic activities. ASFA noted that different couples have different needs and a lot will depend on the age of retirement.
