ABIX Summary
The Australian real estate market is expected to perform solidly but not spectacularly in 2007. A report by property analyst Michael Matusik released on 9 January 2007 predicts Brisbane will achieve the biggest price rises, taking the mantle from Perth. Matusik said many people were preparing to sell in Perth, where house prices rose 45.9 per cent in the year to September 2006. He said population growth in southern Queensland would mean prices there rise as well, especially in inner Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. Sydney prices should begin to recover, he said, while Melbourne had an oversupply of apartments.
